As the new school year begins in Central America, Las Delicias and its surrounding communities face the dual realities of opportunity and challenge.

The renewed momentum at Las Delicias, sparked by the Teresa Batto Fund’s expanding support and the arrival of new teachers, offers a beacon of hope for students who must navigate limited resources, long commutes, and the ongoing need for dependable, quality education.

More than 60 students in Las Delicias, La Pita, Pueblo Viejo, and Laura López stand at the threshold of a year that could redefine their futures, provided they continue to receive the steadfast backing from partners and donors who believe in education as a lasting catalyst for development.

El Salvador is not alone in facing educational hurdles.

Across the region, families in rural settings grapple with costs, access, and the daily realities that make schooling a formidable challenge. To address these barriers, CoCoDA and its partners have expanded a suite of scholarships and support programs designed to keep bright minds in the classroom and on track for higher learning.

Scholarship House «Iván Villasboa», for example, helps rural students pursuing university education in San Salvador by funding a safe housing option to reduce rent burdens and long commutes. In addition to housing, participants engage in “Free Schools” where university students share lessons in English, arts, and other subjects with children in their home communities, creating a ripple effect of knowledge and opportunity.

Beyond El Salvador, CoCoDA’s mission extends to Nicaragua.

In Nicaragua, rural students often face steep access barriers to basic school necessities. The Nicaragua scholarship program provides school supplies, shoes, and clothing to children from large, resource-strapped families, helping to close the distance, both physical and economic, between them and the classroom. And in Guatemala, CoCoDA has launched a new relationship with 32 Volcanoes, partnering with local allies to support education from primary school through university while addressing critical health needs.

Malnutrition remains a grave threat to Indigenous communities, and this program integrates health support with education, empowering families to break the cycle of poverty through sustained learning and improved well-being.

As these programs take root, the overarching message is clear: when people invest in education, through teachers, scholarships, and community-driven partnerships, the benefits extend far beyond individual students. They lift families, strengthen communities, and lay the groundwork for lasting regional development.

If you’re inspired to help Las Delicias and its sister programs, your support can turn classrooms into launchpads for a brighter future, one filled with hope, learning, and tangible progress for families across El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.
