Jim Mulholland, a pivotal figure in the growth and success of Companion Community Development Alternatives (CoCoDA), was honored at a heartfelt retirement celebration in Suchitoto, El Salvador this June. After 11 dynamic years that began in 2013, Jim is stepping down, leaving a legacy of strengthened community partnerships and financial stability for the organization.

Distinguished guests at the celebration included representatives from CoCoDA partners ADES, REDES, the Midwives Association, the Pajaro Flor Spanish school, community leaders, as well as CoCoDA staff and board members. Hosted by CRC, attendees enjoyed a lively celebration featuring a piñata, refreshing drinks, delicious fruits, and music, all set against a backdrop of gratitude and camaraderie.

The happiness that people had during the celebration proved that Jim’s contribution to CoCoDA and the communities in Central America was amazing. Many people shared words of gratitude for Jim, moved by his many years of work and friendship.

Former president of CRC, Maclovio, said:

“The legacy of Jim is great, and easy to see in the communities, water projects, teachers support, scholarship programs, and much more. He is leaving CoCoDA in good hands with Deborah as the new director.”

CoCoDA Representative in El Salvador, Karilyn Vides, said:

“Jim has been more than a boss; he is a friend that is always there when you need him. He has taught us a lot, how to face difficult situations not just at work but also in our families.”

ADES Board Member, Alfredo Leiva, said:

“Jim is not saying goodbye, now he will have more time to advocate for us and tell our story to others. He will continue to be our friends”

One of the most unique moments of the celebration was when CRC president, Edgardo Molina shared:

“In this space we have pictures of people who have dedicated their life to the communities of Suchitoto. Now we are going to add a picture of Jim to this gallery to honor the dedication, commitment and love that Jim has had for our communities.”

Jim was in shock! He did not see this coming, but it shows the type of work that Jim has done for the communities in Cuscatlan and Cabañas in El Salvador and how thankful people in CRC and the communities feel for the hard work that Jim did.

Great people leave great accomplishments behind. The work of CoCoDA with Jim Mulholland’s leadership will stay in the hearts of people for many years, and not only for what he has done, but for what he will continue to do on behalf of Central American people.
