El Salvador, Suchitoto | From June 7th to 15th, our hearts beat with renewed strength during a week filled with learning, stories, and unforgettable moments. The delegation of “Friends of CoCoDA” traveled to a land, El Salvador, that inspires us all—a journey that was much more than a mere trip: it was an act of solidarity, hope, and unwavering commitment to the communities fighting every day for a better future.
Learning and Connecting with Our Past
Our initial days were filled with visits to historic sites—places where memory and culture intertwine with the identity of El Salvador. These moments reminded us that the past is the foundation upon which we build a future full of hope and commitment. Walking through these sites, hearing stories from local people, and understanding the roots that unite us strengthened our resolve to preserve history and continue fighting for a more just peace for everyone.

Meeting Communities and Hearts Full of Life
Visiting the communities we work closely with always fills us with inspiration. In every corner, in every face, we find stories of struggle and resilience. The visit to Santa Marta community, by the Lempa River, was especially moving. There, we learned about the massacre that marked the country’s history, and how, despite the wounds, the community has become a shining example of resistance and hope. Education and culture—represented by the visit to Radio Victoria 92.1 FM—show us that the voices of those fighting for their rights must continue to be heard across every corner of the country.

Moments of Joy and Celebration
Laughter and camaraderie were never absent—whether during boat rides, visits to waterfalls in Suchitoto, or gatherings with children thanks to the Teresa Batto Fund, we support this small yet mighty community in Las Delicias, witnessing how education and love can change lives. Every smile, every story shared, reminded us why we work with such passion and dedication.

A Legacy of Love and Gratitude
This journey was also filled with deep emotions—especially as we celebrated the legacy of our outgoing Executive Director, Jim Mulholland. Jim enjoyed every moment, and his tearful farewell reflected the affection, unity, and commitment we share as the “Friends of CoCoDA” family. His leadership leaves an indelible mark on our hearts, and his spirit of dedication continues to light our way.
Celebrating Innovation and Community Life
By the end of the journey, the arrival of the new solar-powered water system in the community of Apolinario Serrano symbolized progress and hope. This system, benefiting six different communities, not only provides vital access to water but also demonstrates the transformative power of innovation and collaboration. Witnessing this change reaffirmed our purpose: walking alongside communities, supporting their dreams, and strengthening their leadership capacity.

A Call to Keep Moving Forward
This trip was much more than a physical journey; it was a lesson in life, a reaffirmation of our commitment, and an inspiration to continue moving forward with passion and conviction. The stories, culture, and strength of these communities teach us that together, we can build a world where hope and justice become a reality for all.
Thanks to each of you who participated in this experience. Let’s keep walking, learning, and helping transform lives because real change begins in every action we take with love and dedication.
